The future of fashion illustration

People have been talking about fashion illustration as a "dying art" for 20 years, is it already dead just that people wouldn't accept it therefore refuse to declare? Or is it just waiting for the right elements to come together for a rebirth of the art-elements in terms of technology, demand, timing, all those things and more?

Trendspotting

A big trend this summer and no doubt for fall and winter as well seems to be the return of the big shoulders-a trend which I am not very fond of; but a major difference of today's fashion is that many silhouettes coexist, unlike 30 years ago and prior. Today's main trend is really about mixing and matching(or mismatching), vintage combined with current, high end with low end-thanks to the styling in episodes of 'Sex in the City' and Kate Moss, even though the sight of the return of big shoulders sends chills to many of us who lived through the 80's, thankfully we are no longer limited to just having one silhouette to choose from, and shopping at Salvation Army was never as inspiring as it is today.

A Day in Frankfurt

I arrived at the city center train station in Frankfurt at around noon. After dropping off my bags at the hotel, I spent a few hours strolling the streets of Frankfurt. Main River really helped me situate myself. I only had a day there, so I didn't want to be inside museums. Instead, I wanted to get the feel of the streets and the people there.

Illustrating Vogue

I started a fun project on a thread on Showstudio, to ask viewers who are interested to do and post their interpretations of Vogue magazine covers, the criteria must be in the drawing medium, be it by hand or digital. This is my first post on the project.

Kenneth Paul Block

Another master of fashion illustration past away, Kenneth Paul Block, at the age of 84. There seems to be an irreplaceable gap between fashion illustrators of today and of the great ones such as the generation of Kenneth P.Block, Antonio Lopez, Tony Viramontes. Neither individual artists nor as a collective group, could today's talented fashion illustrators fill the void, even with all the spectacular digital technology and the many channels to self publish, somehow not another major wave of energy has really been generated in the past 30 years in the art of fashion illustration.
